Goodell: NFL won’t punish Cooper

Woman on Track to Become First Female NFL Ref

EDT, August 1, 2013 Ravens fans going to Canton, Ohio, this weekend to watch the organizations first ever draft pick, left tackle Jonathan Ogden, get inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame will get early exposure to the NFLs new stadium entrance policy. The policy, which will be implemented for the first time at Saturdays induction ceremony and Sundays Hall of Fame game at Fawcett Stadium, limits the size and types of bags that will be allowed into stadiums during the 2013-14 season. Prohibited items include purses larger than a clutch bag, coolers, briefcases, backpacks, fanny packs, cinch bags, seat cushions, luggage of any kind, computer bags and camera bags. Fans will be allowed to enter stadium gates with bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12 x 6 x12 in size, one gallon clear plastic freezer bags, and small clutch bags approximately the size of a hand. An exception could be made for medical-necessary items after inspection at a stadium gate. Jeff Miller, the NFLs chief security office, told The Suns Childs Walker that league officials expect the changes to make stadiums safer and to expedite the stadium entry process once fans are familiar with the new rules. “Just bear with us for the first few weeks, said Miller. It will take a little time for everyone to understand what were doing. But once everything is in place, we think fans and staff will see an overall improvement. The NFL is encouraging fans as the season approaches to visit individual team websites for specific stadium information about the policy.

“A lot of that is the macho-ism of these youth coaches that are simply not properly informed or prepared.” Pop Warner Football has about 275,000 players among an estimated 2.8 youth football player in the USA. Before Thursday’s announcement, about 200 of Pop Warner’s local associations already were participating in Heads Up. With this youth season already beginning, Butler said the plan is for all 1,300 of Pop Warner’s associations to go through Heads Up training before the start of the 2014 season. It’s kind of like the 49ers, what they do with Vernon Davis. He’s versatile and he can do anything they ask him to do.He’s going to be somebody to be reckoned with this year, for sure. I’ve been very vocal about this young kid out of Notre Dame and expect him to be one of the best rookies this year. It appears as though the Bengals have the right idea on how best to utilize his unique set of skills. With most opposing defenses focused on A.J. Green, Eifert should see some nice looks all year long.

We do not penalize at the club level and the league level for the same instance. That’s not something that we do (per the collective bargaining agreement) … We will not be taking action separately from the club.” Cooper was caught on video, which went public Wednesday, using a racial slur at a concert in June. He apologized to his teammates and others for the remarks. ”This is the lowest of lows,” Cooper said. ”This is not the type of person I want to be portrayed as. This isn’t the type of person I am. I’m extremely sorry.” Cooper said he was drinking when he directed the slur at an African-American security guard at the concert. ”That’s no excuse for what I said.

NFL-National Football League roundup

The same is true for Reggie Wayne in Indianapolis. Even though they both had more than 100 receptions in 2012 — and have enjoyed spectacular careers — I had to leave them off my list because the competition was so tight. Maybe I’d think differently about that once the season begins. For now, here’s my list of the NFL’s 10 best receivers heading into this year: 1. Calvin Johnson , Detroit: This is the easiest pick on this list. Johnson isn’t just the best wide receiver in the NFL; he’s one of the best players, period. There are only a few teams where you’ll find the head coach, general manager and strength coach all agreeing on who the hardest worker in their locker room is. Detroit is one of those teams. Johnson has the size (6-foot-5, 236 pounds) and speed (4.32 seconds in the 40-yard dash) to dominate defensive backs on ability alone, but you can see the effort he puts into his game.

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Riley Cooper

Talented Top 50 Daniel Jeremiah spent the summer poring over college football video. Here is a look at his 50 most talented players. Where does Johnny Manziel rank? More … As an evaluator of talent, I try to focus on actions on the field. My thoughts on the Heisman Trophy winner are documented on NFL Draft 365 . I thought it would be interesting to take the temperature inside NFL front offices, so I reached out to five personnel executives within the league and posed this question: Does Johnny Manziel have the skillset to be a successful NFL starting quarterback? Here are the results: Executive No. 1: Manziel has the ‘it’ factor “Yes.

Several teams have used variations of the hurry-up offense in the NFL, including New England, Buffalo, Denver and Indianapolis. Kelly has a unique philosophy, but its not entirely new to the league. Ive heard guys talk about how we have four or five different speeds and how we do things, but thats not how we do it, Kelly said. There are certain plays we can call where we dont need the defense to be set and there are other plays where we need to get the right look to get in the right play. But a lot of that from a speed standpoint, we never say we want plays snapped in X amount of seconds or anything like that. Preventing the defense from making substitutions has always been a main attraction for teams using the no-huddle. Sometimes, defensive players have faked injuries to get offenses to slow down. Referees spotting the ball quickly enough has never been an issue before. If they sub, were going to match it, Kelly said. Theyve got to get the ball spotted into play.
